As a staging buff, the i3 is the better option for the pricing involved. I’d actually forgotten just how amazing the latter song sounds until I heard it again on the LCD-i3. However, I think there are times where I want clinical precision, but there are also times where I want to crank up an area of the frequency and get more out of it. If I had a choice to personally purchase an IEM that wasn’t a custom CIEM, this would be it at the moment. Programmed with Audeze's proprietary DSP and native support for Bluetooth 5.0, AptX, and AptX HD, the CIPHER Bluetooth Module delivers low latency 24 bit wireless audio that has been optimized for even the most discerning ear. I am impressed by what customization this LCD-i3 can offer as well as the immensely fantastic airy qualities it offers. Except for the coloration differences, they look identical. I never understood the popularity of the Audeze in-ears until I tried the LCD-i3. Via the iOS Lightning port, you can grab and use Audeze’s app for playing with various premade DPS functions and I have to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you to Audeze. The treble experience is quiet on any hiss or static, it is not prone to ground noise either via your hardware. There is something about their house sound that I find extremely appealing. I agree that lightweight plastic would be a great choice, but magnesium is a higher end approach to this. Even where my modest PA2V2 amp was concerned, even the slightest bit of power proved unnecessary. If I am able to, I tend to adjust DSP on each album that pops in my playlist, which adds to the musicality experience for me as a listener. My experience as an audio engineer tells me that sometimes while it appears the high end is brighter, sometimes its due to not having enough mids. As I said, the Audeze LCDi3 in-ear headphone is one of the best earphones you will ever hear. August 21, 2019 - Audeze announced today the new LCD-i3, successor to the extremely popular iSINE 20 and “little brother” to the LCD-i4 will be shipping on August 23. It is noticeably more clean and “pure” to my ear than anything I’ve reviewed in the IEM tier here on Headfonics. Detail comes through in spades, with pop tracks like Hot by TWICE or Nolita Fairytale by Vanessa Carlton sounding better than their genre would denote. To read more about Audeze products we have reviewed on Headfonics click here. I enjoy that, it reminds me of the old and original LCD-3, which is still my favorite Planar. But running from built-in amplification on my iPhone and modded iPod, as well as a Cayin N6 ii, I was able to get flawless audio from all three devices. While the i4 is superior, it isn’t vastly superior, only audibly so over the i3. That is before any customized sound properties are added. Should I change isine20 to lcd i. It’s a solid improvement. Personally, I found the new “ear fins” accessory indispensable, especially during longer listening sessions. He's a huge fan of Grado, UK hip hop, and the English Language in general. The wide frequency range and lightning-quick attack and decay of the i3 really does that track some sweet, juicy justice. Yes, some custom CIEM’s are definitely superior here in that stage-forward sense, but most of them lack the realistic density and feel the LCD-i3 offers. Instead of writing all of those accessories into this paragraph, I’ve decided to put them in list form. Overall, I consider it a comfortable fit and enjoyably visually pleasing as well. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve gotten my mitts on an Audeze headphone. We thank the team at Audeze for giving us this opportunity. And yesterday, we wrote about the new LCD-i3, but I had no idea I’d be sitting down with the earphone today, to take a pointed look at its sonic offerings. I do fail to understand why an ipod would be mentionned in a review of high end equipment. Other companies have tried to put planar magnetic tech into traditional closed-shell IEMS to varying degrees of success, but it seems like there are inherent design challenges that come from closing the shell on planar transducers. The Nemesis can get too thick sometimes, especially so on the low end, which by comparison to the LCD-i3, sounds much heavier than said LCD-i3. The stock experience on the LCD-i3 is what I would consider flat and endearing. I have a set of $149.99 Bluetooth Apple Airpod-ish IEM’s that I am reviewing and I was immensely impressed by them, they are lovely and for the price, I could not believe how great they sounded. The truth is, though, that this earphone does what other Audeze earphones simply try to do (albeit very well):  it gives you a lifelike planar sound that feels as real as real can get. The i4 is a step or two better in every way, but the smallest variance between the two would be the imaging factors. If you have roughly $900 to spend on just a portable IEM, I’ll be recommending this to you. You’d think they would be cumbersome, due to their size, but, they aren’t. Granted, some tracks can still sound a little wonky – like U2’s With Or Without You. The LCD-i3 does a tremendous job when it comes to technicalities. By Vlad Savov @vladsavov Jan 27, 2017, 8:00am EST Share this … They could have gone the LCD-2 route with something a little more relaxed feeling, but they went right down the middle and that is the best route to take when regarding a set that is clearly set up for optimized and personalized sound. Given that the shells are so large, I found the seal less than secure unless I wore the clunky ear hooks. Read our detailed review of the Audeze LCDI3 including comparison of features, user feedback and awards. DISCLAIMER This unit was sent to me by Audeze for the purpose of this review. That should tell your something. The Audeze site actually says that the housing is magnesium. Thankfully, the experience is not harsh or blaring, ever. Via the Audeze App with a lightning connection, I can really alter the tonality and physicality factor of the LCD-i3, but I am not able to achieve any basshead level experience. Generally I am really pleased with these and will probably keep them. On rock tracks like AKFG’s Blue Train there’s a sense of closeness that you just can’t find on closed earphones – or even the iSine 10 or 20. Previously, I was impressed by AKG’s N5005 and how that IEM offered a Bluetooth cable option. Don’t get me wrong. But rather than some failing of the Audeze LCD-i3’s sound, I think this results from my ears just wanting to hear more. You can put into words what I am hearing but unable to articulate in words. But even on my preferred test track for testing the limits of the high end, the LCD-i3 does amazingly well. Ranking list update. The hard clear plastic cover firmly holds everything inside and snaps into place. New Audeze LCD-i3 Announced Officially, this earphone will stand as a “little brother” model to the more expensive (and higher spec) LCD-i4. Some products simply do not respond to EQ alteration when you boost any given area of the frequency response. The midrange feels a bit stubborn in that regard so if you wanted a more forward appeal, or a more distant feel, you might need heavy alteration. Purchase your high-end headphones today. For me, I enjoy that open feel and to have it in this type of abundance is just an absolute pleasure to use. And that includes other planars like the AAW Nightingale (at $999) or even more expensive earphones using dynamic drivers. You can contact him at carroll@majorhifi.com. Audeze headphones have always been a favourite here at the Digit test lab and the new LCD-i3 cements our liking for this audiophile-grade brand even more. It sounds nothing like a regular IEM, a truly remarkable sound. In the mids, the Audeze LCD-i3 offers a wealth of detail that feels just a little reserved. As an upgrade to the iSine 20, it works well, but the i3’s star role is a cheaper, more affordable alternative to the LCD-i4. Also, the highs in the i3s do sound sweeter and more musical but not in any way muted compared to the insine 20s. At less than half the cost, it’s got way more value per dollar, and sounds just as fun and engaging. This makes them fairly easy to drive to high volumes. Ha! Pairing is fast and stable, I’ve not had a single cut out with my Android phone, my iPhone or my TV. The layering, imaging and stereo separation are just impressive. What's wrong with an ipod? Most offer either too little or too much in the way of density factor and coherency. They are at first quite similar, but after preliminary A/B testing, I too feel the isine 20s have a little less authority in the low mids and low end. Also, I’d love to see how you set the Audeze HQ presets if you would share your settings. The bass lands hard and fast, the excellent control ruling out any chance of bleed. Some products require a lot of dB drop off or boosting to hear something audibly change in the experience. That new planar IEM is the LCD-i3: an iSINE 20 (review here) successor (read: replacement) that borrows its tech and styling from the considerably more costly LCD-i4 (review here). By this, I mean that, for example, my CIEM called the Nemesis from Empire Ears, sounds and feels of a much more dense appeal in literal physicality factor. Well, how? The LCD-i3 has a rated impedance of 20 ohms and a sensitivity of 110db/mW. Any thoughts on a direct comparison to the iSine 20? As an entry-level model it certainly won’t be supplanting that venerable earphone, but at $899, just how good does it sound? The depth of field factor is just good though, where the height, width, and separation of instruments may be among the best in an IEM that I’ve ever heard, I do feel the depth of field factor is the weak link in the chain, although, still very nice. Really, the next improvement over this level of sound quality would have to be the LCD-i4, but the i3 gives you the bulk of that sound at only a fraction of the price. Stellar, simply stellar for anything on the go and to be able to hear outside noises while I am walking around outside only makes the air factor feel that much more effortless and expansive. "Audeze announces the new LCD-i3, successor to the extremely popular iSINE 20 and “little brother” to the LCD-i4. If you have the money, I’d try to sell the isine20 and use that money to find an i3. Whoever is designing and implementing products at Audeze, really understands this concept. Featuring heavy lows with ample weight, the i3 delivers the kind of robust and organic sound one would expect from a planar magnetic. I am so happy with the stock treble experience that I try not to touch it. But really, any instrument with a percussive element seems to benefit from the fast, thick sound (like Andy McKee’s slap guitar on Drifting or Gates of Gnomeria). And it’s almost exactly the same weight as the iSine 20, at 0.35 ounces. Well, this LCD-i3 is an open back and has a huge penchant for airiness. Ok, so you didn't use an ipod to review the Audeze. I enjoy that type of a sound and I like the typical full-size Planar vibe that offers, but this LCD-i3 is more subdued and less like the larger sounding Planars, more like the very experience custom IEM hybrid drivers in physicality factor. I am not really able to do much for the midrange in terms of tactility or placement via any DSP. However, the Cipher cable on a phone will let you customize your sound in a more significant manner, than with the Cayin’s stock EQ system. The response to boosting the bass experience is what I would consider a moderately responsive quality, which is still solid for the price. I don’t need to say more. The LCD-i3 features sonic improvements over the iSINE 20, with Bluetooth, Lightning, and standard 3.5mm connectivity included. With the LCD-i3, I am able to obtain that and alter the stock sound to ‘yummy levels’ when I want and how I want. Even though this older model can’t hold a candle to the new i3, it’s still an open-back earphone that performs miles ahead of its competition. I play with Bass a lot though. The low impedance and impressive efficiency of the LCD-i3 will preclude the need for amplification. I am able to customize. At Audeze, we’re the industry leaders in planar magnetic technology. The only thing I use personally when I listen when I am not reviewing, would be all the lower end frequency switches. I really enjoy being able to unfold open the box like it was holding a yummy treat inside and technically, it does. More so, the experience requires no amplification at all and right out of my Hiby R6, right out of my iPhone and right off the Bluetooth module offers plenty physicality factor. Similarly to the iSine LX and the iSine20 that I’ve reviewed in the past, their stock Audeze IEM box is nearly the same. My mistake. Others respond vividly well and you can obtain more or less with just a 1-2dB incremental change that results in something audibly different. It is expectedly open, wide and deep. The midrange, however, feels more tactile and vibrant, more energetic and prone to instances of subtle detailing in the LCD-i3. The isine 10, 20 and LCDi4. Getting mine tomorrow. The MSEB DSP’s can offer more and are a better option for wireless usage. Just a tad bit colored or emphasized, the sound pours just a touch of magic into string-heavy numbers, whether you’re bumping some Steve ‘n’ Seagulls or a Vivaldi violin concerto. Carroll is a headphone junkie residing in Brooklyn. The Audeze LCD-i3 is an open-back planar magnetic IEM, and if that sounds impracticable it’s because it is. It’s a keeper. The Cipher cable(s) that came with my LCD-i3 was marked as for both the i3 as well as the i4. I found the i3 to be the iSine20 on steroids. If you have the budget or want to step up from the Audeze iSINE models, the LCDi3 is well worth testing for yourself. Hi. The imaging on this LCD-i3 is fantastic. I am upgrading from the isine 20s after reading this and another review comparing the two iems. Great review, I’ve had these for a month and love them. Now I get it. I won’t waste your time talking about the Bluetooth cable codecs or the length of the lightning cipher cables. Though $899 may be a bit pricey when stacked up against iSine dollars, the LCD-i3’s sound will speak for itself. The i3 isn’t that far off in my opinion, however it is audible inferior to the i4, but not by that much. Audeze headphones have always been a favourite here at the Digit test lab and the new LCD-i3 cements our liking for this audiophile-grade brand even more. Highs on the LCD-i3 feel luscious and full. So, to my ear, the top end of the LCD-i3 (without any active DSP or EQ) is gently setup and portrayed. The LCD-i3 doesn’t have that issue. Team Audeze delivers here. The top end of the LCD-i3 is polite and gently sweet. Being able to pair to my Sony 900e TV without cables is a blessing. This is why I talk about responsiveness to EQ in nearly every review I post and why I think it is so important. In this case, due to the size of the IEM, I don’t want a metal chassis. I suspect the upper mids are lightly weighted in the i3s compared to the 20s. I think that is for the better with this product anyway. This is my new favorite IEM, there is no doubt about it. Audeze LCD-i3 is the latest in its line of planar magnetic in-ear headphones. The fidelity factor, of course, is audibly inferior to the wired/cable options for the LCD-i3. Given the price difference between the i3 and i4, which would you recommend for a soundstage buff such as yourself ? The size of the drivers and the open back nature make me feel like there are small speakers floating on my ear and when I go for walks outside or a bike ride in the morning, I am simply in another place and do not have the closed-in, claustrophobic feel of a closed system that usually comes with typical IEM’s. But I also have freakishly large elephant ears. The choice is yours and at $899, I expect it these days. It creates a holographic soundstage that’s bigger than any other IEM’s I have heard to date. It is immensely difficult for me to go back to anything else at the moment, due to the epic airiness factor of the imaging experience of the LCD-i3. Nothing, if it's used in the right context. The buds still come with the good ol’ ear hooks… They are lightweight for the most part and rest well on my ear, thanks to the newish design of the ear hooks/guides. It is never the same for more than a few hours at a time. I enjoy it a lot with big band tracks from Tony Benett and Lady GaGa’s Jazz album, which really shines with the level of musicality and the physical impact they used to record the album. The same effect surfaces on tunes like Life’s A Bitch by Nas and the Chromatics’ Running Up That Hill – a kind of hyper-realistic sound that falls within a blind spot in your brain. On certain jazz tracks or choral tracks (like those of Scala and the Kolacny Brothers), the mids can almost appear a little weak. The isines are going on up on Ebay shortly.
